Lisbon’s rugged terrain gives rise to numerous viewpoints, offering dramatic panoramas of the city’s colorful architecture, cobblestone streets, and the sparkling Tagus River. Whether you’re looking for a sunset or a moment of contemplation, these are the best places to see Lisbon from above.

Mirante da Senhora do Monte (Graça)
One of the highest points in the city, it offers a wide, unobstructed view of Lisbon’s historic center. From the castle to the river and the 25 de Abril Bridge, everything is visible from this tranquil viewpoint. Popular with photographers and couples, especially at sunset.

Mirante de Santa Catarina (Bairro Alto)
Nicknamed “Adamastor” because of the statue of the mythical giant there, this viewpoint has a laid-back, youthful atmosphere. People gather at dusk with drinks, guitars, and laughter, watching the ships pass by on the Tagus.

Mirante das Portas do Sol (Alfama)
Probably Lisbon’s most iconic viewpoint. Overlooking Alfama’s maze of red-tiled roofs, whitewashed churches and the sparkling river beyond, it’s a favourite with photographers and early risers looking to watch Lisbon wake up.

Mirante de São Pedro de Alcântara (Bairro Alto)
This terraced garden is ideal for relaxing with a coffee while taking in postcard-perfect views of central Lisbon and the Castelo de São Jorge. With trees, fountains and a tiled map identifying the monuments below, it’s both informative and beautiful.

Mirante do Monte Agudo (Arroios)
A lesser-known viewpoint offering east-facing views over the more residential side of Lisbon. Perfect for a morning visit when the light is soft and golden. Rarely crowded, it’s a favourite with locals for its serenity.

Mirante do Recolhimento (Castelo)
Tucked away behind the castle walls, this small grassy viewpoint is a hidden gem. The view over Alfama is framed by stone and trees, making it feel like a natural window into the city’s past.

Mirante da Graça (Graça)
With a terrace café, shady pine trees and expansive views, this spot combines natural beauty with a social atmosphere. On warm evenings, it’s common to see people sipping wine, chatting or listening to street musicians.

Mirante de Santo Estêvão (Alfama)
A charming little terrace in the heart of Alfama. From here, you can see a quieter side of the neighbourhood and hear the distant echoes of Fado music drifting through the open windows.
